Routine

I can't believe it's been so long since my last post.  But it's normal these days for me to be shocked by how fast time is flying by.  We've been in Costa Rica two years already.  Eduardo is almost 9 years old!  Davie and I have been married six years this month.  In just over a year and a half we'll be able to submit the application to find out when Davie can go back to the US and in a year we need to start looking for lawyers to complete the forms.  Davie's been out of the US almost three and a half years already.  Kaylynn is walking and slowly starting to talk and will be two before we know it.  Where does the time go????

One thing I've decided is that here, with no true changing of the seasons, it's easy to forget the month / time of year and it can be so hard to see the time passing.  And we've settled into a very nice routine so the days flow into each other and before we know it another month has gone.

We've finally reached a point where we aren't really waiting on anything and there aren't any big unknowns looming in the future.  When Davie and I first got married we were unsure what the future would hold, where we would be or how we would get there.  And then he left for Nicaragua and we didn't know when or where we would be together again.  We moved to Costa Rica without jobs and didn't know if we would be able to sustain a life here, if we could ever get to the point where we were working and really living here.

But now, now we are settled.  I love my job and the people I work with and I'm challenged and learning new things.  Eduardo and Kaylynn like their schools and are happy and healthy and growing.  Davie works so hard at home to keep all of the balls in the air there and to make our house and home as wonderful as possible.  Of course we don't know how things will go with the application next year or when we'll end up returning to the US, but the nice thing is we're happy where we are and are okay with whatever might come next.  Before it felt like we weren't in control and we had to make choices that we wouldn't have necessarily wanted to make.  Now I feel like we have a say because we can decide to stay or go and either one will be okay.

I couldn't decide how to start my first post back.  There's been so much that has happened over the past five months - good and bad and exciting and sad things.  Davie's family suffered a horrible loss right before Christmas when four of his relatives were in a car accident and only one of the four made it.  We lost Sammie in March to cancer in her jaw.  Kaylynn started school half days.  Mom and Mike came to visit in March and Mom came again this past weekend.  Davie tried working and we all had a wake up call about how much he really does and how hard it is to be part of a family with both parents working.  It was doable, but I have to say I was a little relieved when it didn't work out!  We've gone to the beach multiple times and to an animal refuge / bio park called La Paz.  My team at work has grown and grown and now is double what it was when I started - almost eight months ago.

Mostly though I think we've been catching our breaths from the whirlwind of the last seven years since Davie and I first met and started on this journey.  We're finally able to take some time and relax and enjoy being together without worry (well, without as many worries - there's always worry about something!) and with the knowledge that we are in a good place that is solid and something we can build upon.  It's been a really nice feeling to finally be in this place.

Soon though it will be time to start working on next steps - getting Eduardo in soccer, I want to start working out again and sign up for some races, Davie wants to finally finish learning English well enough to be able to interact easily with others, I'm hoping to continue growing at work and getting more responsibilities.  I'm excited to see where we go next and what happens now.  And as part of that, I'll try to be better about posting here.  :)

We can't wait to see everyone next month at the beach!
